Attention to graduates and their parents!

A successful examination of FCE is counted as 12 marks in English according to the letter of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (State Final Examination).

This exam is recommended to people who are proficient in English enough for daily communication. This exam is also perfect for those who plan to study or work abroad in future or use English in daily workings.

FCE exam equals to Upper-Intermediate level (B2 according to CEFR scale). A successful examination proves that the knowledge in English is enough to communicate freely in English in different fields of work.

Passing FCE exam and effective exam preparation allow to lead phone conversations and do correspondence in a foreign language in future, and also understand not sophisticated (nonacademic) texts.

Reading and Use of English

Duration

1 hour 15 minutes

Part 1

In this part you have to read a text with 8 gaps and fill them in with relevant words or phrases. Then you have to choose 1 of 4 suggested answers. Some words will be similar in meaning.

Part 2

There is a text in the second part, the same as in the first, but there is no multiple choice and missing words you have to pick and feel in on your own.

Part 3

This part consists of the text with 8 missing words or phrases. After each line with a missing text there is a word, use it and make up your answer.

Part 4

There are 6 sentences in this part. Each of them must be paraphrased by giving its meaning in other words. There are a key word and a second sentence given to each sentence. The second sentence must be changed with the help of a key word so that its meaning is the same as in the first one.

Part 5

Read the given text attentively and answer the given questions by choosing one of the 4 options. Questions come in the same order as the text.

Part 6

Read the text with 6 missing sentences. Then choose the missing information and paste it in the text.

Part 7

In this part match a few small texts with questions; answers to the questions are already given in the texts. Each passage read attentively and choose the right question to it. There may be a few questions to one text.

Writing

Part 1
(a compulsory task)

You have to write an essay with 140-190 words based on the essay topic and suggested notes.

Part 2

In this part of FCE Writing you have to pick one of the three options of possible task completion. They are an article, an informal letter or email, a review or a report. The number of words of a written text is 140-190.

Listening

Duration

About 40 minutes

Part 1

This part includes 8 short recordings such as dialogues of people in different situations. After each recording you have to answer the questions by choosing one of three suggested answers.

Part 2

In this part you have to listen to a long recording and then fill in the gaps of the text with missing words and sentences.

Part 3

In this part you will hear 5 short recordings connected with a topic or function. To do this task correctly you must match speakers with their opinion expressed in the dialogues.

Part 4

In the forth part you will hear an interview or a dialogue and you have to choose right answers to 7 multiple choice questions.

Speaking

Speaking is passed in pairs and is accepted by two examiners, one of whom does not participate in discussion but evaluates your answer according to four criteria.

Duration

14 minutes

Part 1

In this part of the test an examiner will ask you questions on general topics. You have to give information about yourself and your opinion towards these topics.

Part 2

The duration of your speaking in the second part is 1 minute. During this time you have to compare 2 photos given by an examiner and express your attitude towards what is featured on them according to the examiner’s question. Then the examiner will ask a question about these photos to your partner.

Part 3

This part checks your ability to discuss any topic in pairs. During 3 minutes you need to do the task based on the hints given by the examiner.

Part 4

In the final part, which lasts 4 minutes, an examiner will ask you a set of questions connected with the previous task of FCE Speaking.
