CELT-S (Certificate in English Language Teaching — Secondary) is a new course developed by Cambridge Assessment English which is aimed at teachers working with young learners aged between 11 and 18. This course is an ideal opportunity to obtain or refresh knowledge and skills through a combination of online study and observed teaching practice.
CELT-S is a blended course, which means learning will be taking place in the following ways:
8 modules (120 hours)of online input through an online platform developed by Cambridge Assessment English — this will include video lectures, articles, mini tests and other tasks;
24 hours of face-to-face tutor-led sessionsat Grade Education Centre, an authorized test centre and prime partner of the Cambridge Assessment English in Ukraine;
8 practical written tasksin which participants apply what they’ve learnt online into practical classroom tasks. Participants are required to plan and teach a lesson focusing on the same area as the online module, and then submit a lesson plan and their own evaluation of the lesson. This will be followed by written feedback from one of the approved CELT-S trainers at Grade Education Centre;
3 teaching practice lessons 40 to 60-minute long lessonsobserved and assessed by one of the approved CELT-S trainers at Grade Education Centre. All participants will receive oral and written feedback with practical ideas and recommendations for further development.

The course consists of 8 online modules which cover 8 major topics:
Classroom management in the secondary classroom
Language learning and the teenage learner
Teaching language skills
Language awareness for teaching
Teaching language in the secondary classroom
Planning language learning in the secondary context
Language learning resources and materials for the secondary classroom
Assessing language learning in the secondary context
Each of the online modules is designed as a series of lessons, which all have the following structure:
Each module concludes with a practical task that requires participants to apply their online learning to their local context.
For seven of these portfolio tasks participants review the online course content, consider the needs of their own classes and teach a lesson using a selected technique, resource or activity aimed at developing their practice. Having taught the lesson, the participant submits an outline of the lesson together with evidence and an evaluation of their practice.
One portfolio task involves researching an area of language which is relevant to the participant’s classroom teaching.
All of the tasks are marked by an approved CELT-S tutor at Grade Education Centre. Participants will receive written feedback through the online platform.
All participants will teach three lessons working with their own classes at your place of work.
The first two observations are optional formative assessments — participants receive feedback from their trainer with advice and guidance on areas for development.
Setting up, monitor and give feedback on a communicative pair or group speaking activity
Preparing, teaching and evaluating a classroom task with adaptations for weaker and stronger learners
The third observation is compulsory for participants working towards the CELT-S qualification. There are no requirements regarding the focus of this lesson.
There is a trainer-led face-to-face seminar linked to each module, they are grouped so that face-to-face sessions cover two modules on one day.

These seminars aim to activate the knowledge and skills participants gain through online learning and provide participants with the opportunity to focus on their own context, to discuss classroom issues, and work collaboratively to develop and share good practice.
The methodology used in the seminars provides examples of good practice that participants can use in their own classrooms.

Teaching practice will have to be done during the time of the course — dates for those lessons will be negotiated with the trainers on an individual basis.
Participants can expect to be spending 7–12 hours a week on working with the platform, completing portfolio tasks and planning lessons for teaching practice.
