The CELTA course is designed in accordance with the requirements and recommendations of Cambridge Assessment English, the world leader in providing teaching qualifications from University of Cambridge.
And in the light of the ongoing adaptation of Ukrainian professional training programs for foreign language teachers to European educational standards, obtaining the CELTA certificate can be included into compulsory hours of professional development which usually takes place during scheduled courses at the Institute of Graduate Pedagogical Studies.

Taking CELTA will deepen your general English teaching knowledge and will help you acquire the skills of delivering communicative teaching in the classroom, as well as develop your teaching skills in the following spheres:

Course techniques
The course is aimed at developing such spheres of pedagogical experience as:
- Effective teaching principles
- Practical experience of English language teaching to adults
- Using the acquired experience in one’s own teaching context

The course covers 5 key topics:
- Learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context
- Language analysis and awareness
- Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
- Planning and resources for different contexts
- Developing teaching skills and professionalism
Assessment
Your performance will be assessed throughout the whole course. There is no final examination. Each CELTA course is delivered by experienced CELTA tutors, authorised by Cambridge Assessment English, and the final grade for the course is confirmed by the external assessor from Cambridge. There are two types of assessment: teaching practice and written assignments. In order to obtain the CELTA certificate, it is necessary to be assessed on both. Certificates are issued to candidates who meet all the criteria and requirements of the course, and submit their written assignments portfolio. The results are confirmed as grades: Pass, Pass B or Pass A.
Teaching practice
Overall, you will need to teach for six hours and work with groups of students who have two different levels of English. Each delivered lesson as well as your overall performance throughout these six hours are assessed.

Candidates complete 4 written assignments focusing on the following topics:
- Analysing and responding to learner needs
- Analysing language for teaching purposes
- Teaching language skills
- Reflecting on classroom teaching

Registration for the course
Entry requirements for CELTA candidates:
- age 20+ (candidates aged 18 and above can also be enrolled if they succeed in the interview)
- spoken and written level of English at C1 (Advanced) level and above
- English language awareness for effective teaching
- higher education in any area (or a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into higher education, if they succeed in the interview)
- have the potential to develop necessary skills to complete the course effectively: to successfully complete the written assignments and the assessment of teaching practice
- technical requirements (for online courses): stable internet connection, suitable computer equipment, digital literacy
Once you have applied for the course, it will be necessary to:
- Complete the Pre-interview task (it is emailed to you as soon as you apply)
- Have an interview with a tutor
- Pay for the course
- Complete the Pre-course task, which is emailed to you as soon as your payment is received
